APPEAL

PARNASALA AT SANTHIGIRI ASHRAM

Sir/ Madam,

We, at Santhigiri Ashram, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, have been working over 40 years eschewing caste, colour, creed, religion, language, race, etc. to bring Universal Brotherhood and Eternal Peace for the humanity based on the teachings of our founder Guru, NavaJyothiSree Karunakara Guru. The Ashram has 14 branches throughout India, supported by numerous Health Care Units, 2 Medical Colleges, Research Institutes and Cultural Wings. It is registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955, vide order No. 88/78.
The Ashram’s activities include research in the Social, Scientific, Agricultural and Industrial areas, including Ayurveda and Siddha. Spirituality is one of the major fields of study carried out under Social Research. The Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, has recognized Santhigiri Ashram as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO), vide its order No. 14/435/2006TU/V, dated 13.12.2006, taking note of the Ashram’s pioneering efforts in social and industrial researches.
Further, the Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, has granted exemption under section 35(1) (ii) and 35 (1) (iii) of the Income Tax Act in 2007 for supporting the research activities initiated by Santhigiri Ashram. Former President Sri. K.R. Narayanan donated his ancestral home to the Ashram to setup an International Research Centre for traditional Indian Systems of medicines like Ayurveda & Siddha. Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister dedicated this research centre to humanity in February 2005. Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Hon’ble Chairperson, UPA laid the foundation stone for the Santhigiri Research Foundation on 15th February 2008.
Aided with the Teachings of our beloved Guru, we draw inspiration from our rich and ancient culture, scriptures and the Teachings of all world religions, which lay stress on charitable activities as these are paramount in ensuring a just and equitable society, in order to prevent setting of decay. Absence of such a just society is causing untold miseries all over the world in the name of religion, mindless exploitation of precious natural resources, etc.
Along with the Governments of the land, Spiritual Institutions such as ours are supposed to take up this responsibility, which is very onerous, tough, challenging and demands perseverance and patience.
Pursuing charitable activities also needs funds, which are obtained either in the form of donations or through revenue generating activities or a combination of these.
All these years, Santhigiri tried hard to manage its requirements through its own resources. But as the task is getting more daunting and the need and urgency to reach out to the society are becoming severe, Santhigiri seeks to get the support from all the socially conscious, philanthropic and responsible citizens and corporate.
It is the ardent endeavor of Santhigiri to be a beacon of peace to the world by providing succor to the downtrodden, the destitute, the oppressed and the suppressed, while keeping in tune with nature, The multiplier effect of all these in the society need not be specially emphasized, here.
A gist of our activities is attached for your kind information.
This appeal is humbly placed before you seeking your wholehearted patronage and promotion of the objectives of Ashram for the welfare of the humanity, which are being pursued through our various Scientific, Industrial and Social Research projects and charitable programmes.
May we look forward to receiving your generous donations by cheque or demand draft drawn in favour of ‘Santhigiri Social Research Institute’. As per the Income Tax Act u/s.35 (1)(ii) and (iii), such donations are eligible for 125% weighted deductions in the case of ‘Business/Profession’ and 100% for ‘Salaried class’ categories. Kindly do mention your PAN No. to enable us to send the Receipt.

With Prayers

Santhigiri Ashram- Dedication of Parnasala (2010 September 12)

The Sigificance of the Parnasala flows from Navajyothi SreeKarunakara Guru,s Life and Realization for the world. The Guru took birth on Thursday, 1st September ,1927, at Chandiroor, a small village in Alappuzha district of Kerala. Guru was very quiet in his childhod. He felt inside him a ' Light-' an effulgence- prompted by which he spoke occassionally. He was privately tutored by a local school teacher, at the age of eight. When he was 13, he approached his teacher and told him about his desire to lead the life of an ascetic. Guru thus reached Aluva Advaita Ashram in 1940. He lived in Sivgiri Mutt and its branch ashrams for 17 years. He required the guidence of a spiritual master to clarify his childhood visionary experience of the ' Light'. Being born with an inherent spiritual mission, he struggled in the absence of a spiritual guide. But soon the Master he was waiting for came into his life. Qureshia Fakhir, a wandering Sufi Saint, sensed the glitter of Guru's Soul and embraced him exclaiming three times, " You are the Heir, You are the Heir, You are the Heir". Guru accepted Qureshia Fakir, known also as Pattani Swami, as his spiritual guide for self- attainment. Several years went by with extreme sacrifices, pain and difficulties. At the end of it all, he came to Pothencode, near Thiruvananthapuram, and established Santhigiri Ashram in the year 1964.

He built a 'Parnasala' a single thatched room with four wooden poles supporting it. That was the nascent form of the parnasala . In the year 1969, it was tiled with permission from Guru. It was here that Guru sat and discoursed to disciples. The spiritual attainment of Guru took place in the year 1973 after several ordeals and sacrifies that were beyond human endurance. A revelation came from the supreme Effulgence of Brahmam that It (Brahman) desired for ages had now been fulfilled through Guru. Along with it came the corrections to age -old spiritual errors. Guru revealed that the misfortunes and difficulties suffered by human beings are due to ' Karmic ' errors. By his spiritual completion, Guru was ordained to perform spiritual purification of the souls, to free them of all karmic impurities. A large community of disciples who recognised Guru's Supreme spiritual ascendancy, came into existence at Santhigiri.
